Run, Walk, Hope

Fresh air, exercise, community awareness and raising money!

First UMC is raising money for the Samaritan Counseling Center as a year-long mission focus. We set a lofty goal of raising $10,000 together to help raise awareness of mental-health-related issues in our community.

We want to challenge you to participate in a walk/run on July 16, 2022 at Brighton High School Football Stadium.

The event “Run for Hope” is organized by Fund a Life, an awesome Brighton-based charity that helps people in Michigan overcome major life-altering circumstances of all kinds by awarding grants directly an individual or family battling crises. Your registration fee goes directly to them to support their amazing mission.

By piggy-backing our fundraiser for mental health support with theirs, your efforts will go twice as far! To participate, we are asking you to

  1. Register for Run for Hope 5k, 1k or Yoga Challenge ($35 participation fee, $25 for ages 7-18, free for 6 and under–note price increases after May 31)
  2. Create a Facebook Fundraiser via the Church Facebook Page asking your friends to Supercharge your 5k. 100% of donations received through these Facebook page fundraisers will benefit Samaritan Counseling Center’s Client Assistance Fund.

We are hoping 30-50 people will walk or run in the races (or join the yoga event) that starts at Brighton High School July 16, 8 am. Plus, every week this summer there will be opportunities to walk/run with other members of the church to improve our mental and physical health and the mental health of people in our community.

Title your Fundraiser

Give your fundraiser a compelling title. People are drawn to customized titles and eye-catching images.

Tell your Story

In the text box that says, “Why are you raising money?”, tell your story of why you want to raise money for a particular cause the church is supporting. The more personal you make your case, the more likely people will support your fundraiser. Share if you have a timely reason for people to support your efforts.

For the 5k, you could say something like: Mental Health Care is so important, and I want to make it more accessible. Your Gift of $25 represents one session with a counselor for someone who couldn’t otherwise afford the care. 100% of your donation goes to Samaritan Counseling Center’s Client Assistance Fund — Facebook does not charge any processing fees.

Select a Photo

You can use our graphics for your fundraiser (save to your device first), or some other personal photo that amplifies your message.

Thank you for starting a fundraiser! Follow these tips for a successful fundraiser:

Tips for a Successful Fundraiser

  1. If you can, consider making the first donation, whether it’s $5 or $50. Fundraisers that already have some donation activity are more likely to spur additional donations.
  2. Consider writing a post on your fundraiser page to update people about its progress. This helps generate more visibility for your fundraiser on other people’s Facebook feeds.
  3. Share your fundraiser page link with friends who may be interested in supporting you on your birthday.
  4. Thank your donors!

Vacation Bible School (VBS)

Wednesday, March 23rd, 2022

Children of all ages will get on a roll with God and have a blast at the summer’s biggest party! This year’s theme is Food Truck Party and we’ll be cooking up fun. Children will be invited to pray as Jesus teaches in Matthew 6:11; “Give us this day our daily bread.” These words serve as a reminder that everything we have comes from God — and  by turning to God in prayer our daily needs are met. Through music, drama, science, crafts, games, stories and snacks we’ll learn how God’s love for us helps us to love and care for the rest of the world!

VBS is free. Please Register your child in advance. Space is limited.

Lots of volunteers are needed before during and after VBS! Can you help decorate, prepare snacks, run games or crafts, lead a small group of children? Contact Allison if you have questions. allison@brightonfumc.org

Scrap Metal Drive

Tuesday, May 17th, 2022

The Red Bird Mission Team will collect your scrap metal Saturday, Sept. 10 at the Brighton Campus. Save your metallic household items for this fundraiser! Common scrap metal items include

  • Insulated Copper Wire
  • #2 Copper Tubing
  • Copper Scrap
  • Aluminum
  • Aluminum Car/Truck Rims
  • Aluminum/Copper Radiators
  • Aluminum Cans
  • Appliances
  • Bikes, Toys
  • Car Batteries
  • Cast Aluminum
  • Cast Iron, Light Iron
  • Computers
  • Electric Motors, Scrap Cars
  • Plumbing Brass
  • Stainless Steel (Non-Magnetic)
  • Lead
  • Transformers

See complete list

If you need items to be picked up, contact Ginger VanBlaricum, 810-772-1863. Items must be outside or in an open garage (volunteers can not enter your home, thank you for your understanding).
By contributing your unwanted metallic items in this way, you are reducing the amount of waste into land fills and contributing to mission work — all money raised from the salvaged metal is for Red Bird Mission. Volunteers separate the metal from donated items to increase the salvaged value.
Fun fact…….when tearing apart a dryer. We get nine feet of small wire, the cord, the motor, a circuit board, the outside casing, which gets flattened, and usually a metal drum.
By separating all these items, more money is raised for missions.
