SUMMARY:Just Conversations
DESCRIPTION:Just Conversations: Civil Rights – a four-part virtual series\nYou are invited to ground your heart and mind in the powerful history of the American South. Whether you are traveling on the upcoming Civil Rights Pilgrimage or simply want to engage in deep\, meaningful community dialogue\, be part of “Just Conversations: Civil Rights.” \nThis four-part\, drop-in series explores the profound stories\, landmark struggles\, and enduring legacy of four pivotal locations in Alabama. Through public-accessible media resources—including short documentaries and powerful interviews—and open discussion\, we will explore the intersection of historical truth and modern-day justice. \nWhy “Just” Conversations?\nThe name has a double meaning: these are simply conversations—informal\, drop-in spaces where you can show up exactly as you are. But they are also conversations about justice—how the history of these four places continues to call us toward equity\, faith-filled action\, and racial healing today. \nSeries Schedule & Focus Cities\nThis is a Zoom-only series meeting on Tuesday evenings at 7 pm EST. Use the same ZOOM LINK for each meeting. \nWatch the assigned media in advance and join the conversation: \n\nJuly 14\, 2026 | Birmingham: The Power of Youth\n\nFocus: We will center our conversation around the historic Children’s March\, examining how the courage of young people shifted the momentum of the movement in Birmingham.\n\nWatch The Children’s March\, in advance and then join us on Zoom @ 7 pm for discussion. \n\n\n\nAug. 4\, 2026 | Selma: Bridge to Freedom\n\nFocus: Diving into the footage of Eyes on the Prize\, we will reflect on the strategic\, painful\, and triumphant road from Selma to Montgomery that ultimately led to the Voting Rights Act.\n\nWatch Eyes on the Prize in advance and then join us on Zoom @ 7 pm for discussion. \n\n\n\nAug. 25\, 2026 | Montgomery: Legacy and Equal Justice\n\nFocus: We will explore the work of the Equal Justice Initiative in Montgomery\, featuring insights from civil rights attorney Bryan Stevenson on how we reckon with our past to heal our future. \nWatch “Tell Me More with Kelly Corrigan | Bryan Stevenson” in advance and then join us on Zoom @ 7 pm for discussion.\n\n\nSept. 22\, 2026 | Tuskegee: Excellence\, Honor\, and Reckoning\n\nFocus: Our final session looks at Tuskegee\, including the heroic legacy of the Tuskegee Airmen\, a controversial military initiative designed to measure African-Americans’ competence for flying. \nWatch Fly Boys: Western Pennsylvania’s Tuskegee Airmen in advance and then join us on Zoom @ 7 pm for discussion.

SUMMARY:Scrap Metal Drive
DESCRIPTION:The Red Bird Mission Team will collect your scrap metal Saturday\, Aug. 29 at the Brighton Campus. Save your metallic household items for this fundraiser! Common scrap metal items include \n\n\n\n\n\nInsulated Copper Wire\n#2 Copper Tubing\nCopper Scrap\nAluminum\nAluminum Car/Truck Rims\nAluminum/Copper Radiators\n\n\n\n\nAluminum Cans\nAppliances\nBikes\, Toys\nCar Batteries\nCast Aluminum\nCast Iron\, Light Iron\n\n\n\n\nComputers\nElectric Motors\, Scrap Cars\nPlumbing Brass\nStainless Steel (Non-Magnetic)\nLead\nTransformers\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSee complete list \n\nVolunteer to help \nIf you need items to be picked up\, contact Ginger VanBlaricum\, 810-772-1863. Items must be outside or in an open garage (volunteers can not enter your home\, thank you for your understanding).\n\n\n\nBy contributing your unwanted metallic items in this way\, you are reducing the amount of waste into land fills and contributing to mission work — all money raised from the salvaged metal is for Red Bird Mission projects. Volunteers separate the metal from donated items to increase the salvaged value.\n\n\nFun fact…….when tearing apart a dryer. We get nine feet of small wire\, the cord\, the motor\, a circuit board\, the outside casing\, which gets flattened\, and usually a metal drum.\n\nBy separating all these items\, more money is raised for missions.\nNote: when donating financially to this mission\, please specify “scrap metal drive.” Thank you!\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
