All-Church Study Begins Mid-February
You are invited to study The Difficult Words of Jesus, by Amy-Jill Levine. Explore how some of difficult teachings of Jesus would have sounded to the people who first heard them, how have they been understood over time, and how we might interpret them in the context of the Gospel of love and reconciliation.
Jesus provided his disciples teachings for how to follow God’s word; he told them parables to help them discern questions of ethics and of human nature; he offered words of comfort and encouragement. And sometimes Jesus spoke words that followers then and now have found difficult. For example, He instructs disciples to hate members of their own families (Luke 14:26), to act as if they were slaves (Matthew 20:27), and to sell their belongings and give to the poor (Luke 18:22).
Join a small group study, or read the book independently. Copies of the book are available at the Brighton and Whitmore Lake campuses ($11 suggested donation). Audio books are available through sources like Hoopla (check with your public library) and Audible. Digital copies are available for purchase through Cokesbury.com and other retailers. A video component complements the study, which may be viewed on Amplify Media. To register for your free Amplify Media account visit https://www.brightonfumc.org/amplify/
