Advent, A Season of Surprises by Scott Chrostek
Rev. Chrostek’s devotional guide leans into the anticipation we feel around Advent. No one could anticipate the surprise that awaited humankind with the birth of Jesus. Two thousand years later, we still look forward in expectation, wondering what lies next. What’s coming next for you? What’s next in your life beyond the presents, the family gatherings, and the Christmas traditions? What are you anticipating in your life? What are you dreading? Share this special time with a small group study.
Wednesdays at 6:30 pm, Nov. 29, Dec. 6, 13, 20

Events & Missions
There are many ways to open your heart and prepare for Christmas. Find a mission, donate a coat, socks or mittens, come to a worship service. We look forward to sharing this special time with you.
Gifts of Hope
Dec. 3 Deadline for Gifts of Hope
Gifts of Hope provides Christmas gifts for Livingston County foster children. You can sponsor a child by donating money, gift cards or shopping from a wish list. Each sponsorship is approximately $100 (you can participate at any giving level). Contact Mary Kushner to become a sponsor, firstname.lastname@example.org or 810-220-2820. In 2022 we provided gifts for 46 children in foster care.
Deadline for dropping off gifts is Dec. 3 (foster families will pick up the gifts Dec. 9). Thank you for spreading hope this Christmas!
Hat & Mitten Tree
With your donations, the Christmas trees in the Brighton and Whitmore Lake Campuses will be adorned with new hats, scarves, mittens and gloves. At the end of the season the items will be distributed to people in need through local nonprofits.
Salvation Army Red Kettles
First United Methodist Church volunteers will be bell ringers at Salvation Army “red kettle” sites during the Christmas holiday season. Contact Agnes Hoshal if you are interested in volunteering.
Coats for Cass & St. Andrews
Dec. 3-10, the United Methodist Women’s Dorcas Circle is collecting new or clean, gently used coats (men’s, women’s and children’s) and men’s thermal underwear and backpacks. If you can volunteer to drive the donations to Cass Community Social Services the week of Dec. 10, that would be super helpful!
The United Methodist Women are collecting non-slip socks to give to the residents at Regency of Whitmore Lake. Our goal is 126 pairs of new socks so that every resident gets a new pair of socks by Dec. 18.
